One of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen was on a 2 hour train journey from Munich to see the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein in the Bavarian Alps. I spotted it nestling in the mountains and, as I got closer and closer, it loomed bigger and bigger, until there it was in all its glory, the beautiful castle of King Ludwig II, on which the Walt Disney Castle is based. Neuschwanstein castle is in the town of Fussen, which joins the cities of Wuzburg and Fussen on The Romantic Road across Germany. It is a journey that passes through palaces, old cities and medieval castles, in a world that allows you to travel back through time, as nothing much has changed along the way.
Fussen is a beautiful little town at the foot of the Alps near the border with Austria. Is very well known for its beautiful castles, and of course Neuschwanstein, as well as Hohenschwangau, another one of King Ludwig’s castles, which sits on the original Swan Lake on which the famous ballet by Tchaikovsky is based.Beside the castles, the historical old town of Fussen is a sight in itself with lovely little chalet type houses, surrounded by mountains and lakes.
